THE REVIVAL & the art of giving value to “trash”…
28/11/2022
Did you know that over 40,000 tons of clothes, coming mostly from countries belonging to the global North, end up in Kantamanto every year?
We were extremly disappointed to hear those absurd numbers from our two guests, who were invited by our dear friends at Caritas Luxembourg in the framework of the Rethink Your Clothes campaign.
THE REVIVAL is a community-led non-profit organisation that seeks to transform the fashion industry by educating, creating awareness and by upcycling global textile waste in Ghana. Meet Yayra and Kwamena, the two friends who started their journey in 2015 and have now 8 active people working on their team. To create new garments, they collect second-hand clothes that have been discarded, employ local craftsmen and collaborate with fashion students from local universities as well as with members of the public.
While so-called „developed“ countries are overconsuming, those countries that belong to the global South are forced to bear the consequences of our actions. In Kantamanto, they are being submerged with tons of unwanted fast-fashion clothes, creating thereby the largest second hand market in the world…
We have to stop this madness! ✋🏼
